A study of contrasts. This man's visibly aging, wrinkly and leathery countenance displays weariness of life. Yet, his eyes, albeit surrounded by dark circles, are full of strength, determination and character. He is rail-thin, both an effect of shortages of food and due to a naturally skinny build - but his height reaches above the average, his back almost always straightened instead of hunched over.

   The calm and polite demeanor, slow and deliberate speech pattern, rich vocabulary and meticulousness makes one think of a venerable scholar at the brink of his life, still continuing to work his trade; his regular presence at the city's archive reinforcing the impressions. Yet, the man's attire, lacking in the way of style, could belong to someone capable of living outdoors and prepared to do so over time. The walking staff he supports his frame with certainly fits both types.
