Eternal damnation has not dimmed the beauty that she held as a mortal woman, but has only heightened it. In life, Rusudan ruled as Queen of Georgia between 1223 and 1245. Her reign marked the end of the Georgian Golden Age. Soon after Rusudan succeeded to the throne, Georgia was attacked by the last Khwarazmshah, Jalal al-Din. The Khwarazmian incursions left Georgia too weakened to offer serious resistance to the Mongols when in 1235 they advanced in force into the country. On the night of the Mongol invasion, Rusudan was approached by the enigmatic Brujah ancient known as ibn Alomar. The elder revealed to her that behind the powers and thrones of the mortal world, there was another war that had been waged since the time of the First Murderer. The bitter defeats that Georgia had suffered during Rusudan's reign were but echoes of this eternal struggle. Humbled and enraged, the queen pledged herself to the ancient vampire. She became his lover and ghoul, and in 1245 the elder finally Embraced her. When Rusudan entered the ranks of the Damned, she swore to free her country from the Mongol yoke. It would take her a century to fulfill her promise. In Muslim sources, such as Ata-Malik Juvayni, Rusudan was known as Qiz-Malik, from the Turkish qiz, "maiden", and the Arabic malik, "king". In the modern nights, the title is also afforded to her in Kindred circles.
