Seeking the strength to carry such a fate, Iori left his isolated mountain home and joined the Yamabushi clan, ascetic warrior-monks devoted to spiritual and physical perfection. His journey led him to Mount Daisen, where he immersed himself in Shugendo?, Taoist rites, and relentless martial training.

When the existence of Okami no Sho was revealed, the Ikkiliky clan, ruthless samurai hunters, launched a surprise assault on the Yamabushi temple. Outnumbered and on the brink of annihilation, Iori made a forbidden choice?he opened the sacred book.

What followed was carnage.

Iori awoke surrounded by mutilated bodies, the enemy slaughtered as if by a monstrous wolf. Though the clan survived, the elders feared what Iori had become. Declared a heretic who invoked a cursed power, he was exiled from the Yamabushi.

As he departed beneath the moon, the clan leader bestowed upon him a final name:

Okami Kiba ? Wolf Fang.
