They are werespiders, the only shapeshifting children of the Grandmother Spider. They are capable of changing into creatures of pure nightmare or a horde of tiny arachnids. The Garou feel that they serve the Wyrm, and the werewolves are not entirely wrong. Some Ananasi do obey the Wyrm, but some take their marching orders from the Weaver and others from the Wyld. All werespiders, though, serve only one mistress at heart: Their imprisoned Queen, Ananasa. The Ananasi are solitary, for the most part. They work to free their Mother-Queen from the opal prison in which the Wyrm has trapped her. At times that involves working at cross-purposes to the Garou. In other instances, they aid the werewolves in their fight against the Wyrm. Anasasi also fight and kill each other when necessary. Spiders are cannibals, after all. Still, the werespiders never do so when it would be at odds with their larger fight. The Ananasi are very predatory, very compelling creatures. They use a healthy dose of pheromones to attract members of the opposite sex for both mating and feeding. The Ananasi understand better than anyone the connection between all living things. Each being is tied to every other through the ornate but inescapable strands of the Great Web. As such, every piece of the skein can be manipulated -- by those who understand the connections. Forms Ananasi can assume four forms. Even the forms that seem most "normal" have their oddities and unique characteristics. Homid: The Ananasi's Homid form resembles the human body in appearance. This form still differs from human in some distinctive ways. Its blood chemistry accommodates both human hemoglobin and spider hemocyanin molecules. The Homid form also possesses venom glands and vestigial fangs. Lilian: The Lilian form is a hideous combination of human and giant spider. This form serves as the Ananasi's primary combat form. Ananasi can alter their Lilian form through practice or through Gifts. All variations are terrifying to human eyes, inciting full Delirium. Height and weight increase from Homid form by about 50%. Pithus: If the Lilian form is horrific, the Pithus is a true nightmare. The Pithus form is a giant spider with a body mass of between 500 and 700 pounds. (Sleep tight!) This form is ideal for producing webs with the tensile strength of steel. Like the Lilian form, the Pithus invokes full Delirium. Crawlerling: Because of this form, an Ananasi is almost impossible to kill. The werespider can disintegrate into thousands of normal-sized spiders. If even a few Crawlerling spiders survive, the Ananasi can eventually reconstitute herself. She only needs time and the consumption of protein (usually other spiders) to rebuild her mass.
