Gretel was a foundling brought up as a ward of  the church in Icenfar. She was given her surname because she was found under a hornbeam, a rare tree in the cold lands of icenfar.

When she became older, she started to earn a living by hunting, mostly nuisance animals like rats, wolves and giant beetles.

She looks like a fairly typical native of Icenfar, tall, blonde and blue-eyed.
