He does not know where he came from or who his parents were. The few things he remembers are fragments of a war, his time in orphan camps, and the life he lived around people trying to survive it. Much of the war itself has faded from his memory. Growing up around constant conflict taught him to value the peaceful moments he does have. He is straightforward, generally well-mannered, curious about people and the world around him, and tends to act when something catches his interest. If trouble appears, he is usually the sort to grab his hammer and get involved rather than stand around wondering whose problem it is. As he grew older, he worked as a messenger and courier, carrying information and supplies between settlements. The work taught him to be dependable and gave him an appreciation for communication and technology. He still carries an old communication device tuned to a particular frequency. It occasionally produces static, beeps, and fragments of information, and Sano pays close attention to it. A strange transmission, an interesting lead, or news of an expedition can be enough to send him looking into it. Sano now makes his living as a mercenary, but adventure has become more than just work. He actively seeks out unexplored places, unusual creatures, rare reagents and interesting items. His pocket journal contains notes about places he wants to visit, things he wants to find, and whatever strange information catches his attention. If he hears about something unusual, he is just as likely to go looking for it himself as he is to wait for someone to offer him a contract. He has a particular fondness for modern technology, even while living modestly in a somewhat rusty home in the slums. He enjoys designing and crafting things and is often more interested in figuring out how something works than worrying about whether it looks out of place. Sano carries a magical bag capable of holding things far larger than it appears it should. His hammers and maul usually disappear inside it, although on occasion someone may catch him actually wearing the bag. He also keeps a small, discreet pouch of adult recreational toys and a pocket journal. The journal comes out whenever he meets someone interesting or discovers something worth remembering. Sano does not have a grand plan for settling down. He prefers keeping his life open, following interesting opportunities, meeting interesting people and seeing where things lead. To him, a good day can be a successful hunt, a strange ruin, a new face, a drink with friends, or a radio transmission pointing toward the next adventure. TL;DR: Modernist and upbeat.
