At first glance Dax appears to be an enormous Were Lion, however this is not the case.  He is not a Lycan, he's the product of a spell gone wrong.  He was once a Human slave, working on the boats rowing day and night, in service to an evil mage.  The mage was a collector of sorts and once while he was out hunting game, he came across the largest most ferocious lion he had ever saw.  The mage captured the lion and attempted to fuse it's soul to that of Dax's.  The mage was trying to create a "super" slave, but instead of just fusing ther souls, it took all of the most powerful qualities and traits from both beings and created one incredibly large perfect mix.  Dax was able to escape his slaver, but was not able to seek his revenge.  He vows to one day track him down and make him pay for the years of hell and abuse  that Dax suffered at his hands.
