When not obscured by a shadowy hood the hairless, twisted face of this unfortunate soul can be seen, though there is no denying that he is lucky compared to most of his Clan. His eyes are pitch black with two small red dots as pupils and his teeth are long, gnarled and can barely be contained in his mouth. His face is gaunt and lifeless with cheekbones that are high and defined. His chin is long, jutting and has a small cleft in it and his ears are long and pointed much like an elves. Derek's voice is a low pitched, gravely one which he more than likely puts on to match his appearance.

His body is lithe, if not a little gangly. He is short and appears even more so when he is hunched over.  His fingers are long and spidery and constantly curled up into one another as he skulks around with that insufferable grin on his face.

Derek's best friend is a woman named Maria who takes the form of a skull that he keeps in his backpack and is often seen whispering to, probably making fun at the expense of others in hushed tones.
