At an early age she would often sneak off from her studies to help in the fields, preferring the manual labor of working the fields or helping in the harbor over sitting locked in a room to sit and stitch embroidery or something trivial. Darkness descended over the grey cliffs, whispers began when people started turning up missing others mutilated of a monster. One cool summer's night, a mere twelve summers of age while sitting curled up in her eldest brother's lap the screams came from the village. The sound of splitting wood could be heard just as her father and brothers ran from the hall, never being one to listen to what she was told she fallowed them into the bailey to try and help. What she saw was a blood bath; bodies lay dead or dying. The sweet coppery smell of blood perforated the area sending the beast into a frenzy. Standing rooted to the spot, a slim rapier in hand she watched her beloved father and brothers slain while fighting the beast that descended upon their house. Lifting her eyes from the blood pool about her eldest brother her eyes looked at the beast hovering over her brothers, it was then she saw the hellish red eyes staring back at her. She stood in a silent battle with the creature each in their own right daring the other to make the first move. A sound from the stables drew the beasts attention for just a split moment, the crashing sound spurred her into motion, turning on her heels she sprinted up the steps and slammed the doors shut and slammed the bolts into place to try and keep the beast out in vain. Quickly running across the expanse of the room she moved to clutch her sisters and try and hush them from screaming and crying. Not having time to get them down the steps to slip out the kitchen the large hall doors splintered leaving her standing the only thing between her and her sisters and baby brother. Rounding on the beast she managed to slam the silver bladed rapier into its side before being flung across the room, her body hit the wall and crumpled on the floor. The sounds of crying and screaming slowly drew her out of her daze. Sitting there locked in fear on the floor she watched her sisters molested and killed while the beast slaked his thirst. It was then he descended on her, it was her turn she saw it in his eyes. Refusing to give up with out a fight she scrambled mere feet to the chest that held her fathers battle axe; barley able to lift it from the chest she swung once, twice scoring a cut on the beasts chest ducking a swing from the beast she swung with all her anger and might she could muster and managed to cut the beasts head off. Being the smart girl that she was and having sat at the feet of her elders and listened to the tall tales she burned the beast's body and scattered the ashes. Not long after that terrible night she disappeared from Karhold taking only what few prized mementos and clothes she could carry. For weeks she wondered stealing what food she could, hunting in the woods and sleeping under the stars. It was one such night that she stumbled onto a dead dire-wolf who had one living pup the others in various states of decomposition. Hearing a growl from the tree line she spun in time to be attacked by a bear that was easily seven times her size. She still to this day don't know how long she laid there though the pup stayed close to her guarding her until Renly and his younger son found her. When she awoke she was laying on a pile of furs and a small in stature woman was cleaning her wounds and stitching different ones. The family having no clue who she was they took her in assuming she was an orphan when by rights she was, she worked the fields, helped sow the grains and bag them when it was time to take them to the miller. She lived out her youth with the family until she was eighteen summers before she took her leave to wonder the world. Often she finds her self in new places, seeing new faces.. She's not one to trust people easily though once her trust is gained she guards her friends fiercely. |
