Malthus was a First Lieutenant in the Explorer Corps in the late 29th century while aboard the jumpship White Claw cataloging newly charted planets. The ship had a catastrophic misjump thus crippling the Kearny-Fuchida drive of the ship with life support failing as the doomed ship starting to brake up. Malthus made his way to the life boat.

The life boat crash lands in a lagoon within an amazonian archipelago, and First Lieutenant Malthus now starts his exploration of this planet and the many natives that live on the world of Sinfar.
