You didn't feel quite so badly after finding out that he had been consumed by a demon a few years later.  You suppose it pays to keep one's summoning pentagram maintained.  Pity he no longer had an apprentice to look after it and other mundane, daily functions of the tower for him.

Just to play it safe, you have sworn off of summoning abyssal creatures or bargaining with their agents.  It's all just too much trouble; so to hell with them (no pun intended).
