She screamed and her family came to her aid. The beast was supposedly slain, but not before leaving a gaping wound down the leg that it had a grip on. It wasn't until the next full moon, that she began to notice anything strange. She experienced what seemed a dream-like state, and when she awoke from it, her clothes were gone and she was in a cavern, covered in blood, some scattered coins, gems, and bones surrounding her. After that night, she stayed home, not knowing what had happened and finding comfort among family who loved and wanted to keep her safe. It wasn't until the next full moon....that it happened again. She was in bed this time, when it started. The dreams seemed so real, horrible, and yet exhilarating. She awoke with a smile, stretched her arms, opened her eyes, grinning at the sunlight coming from the window, then wiped something wet and sticky from her cheek. She looked at it with squinty eyes. It looked like blood. It WAS blood. She gasped softly and sat straight up in her bed. The first thing that she did was look down. Her bedding was covered in blotches of red. Her eyes lifted and darted around as she threw back her covers and stood up. She saw a trail of bloody rodent-like tracks and she followed them into the hallway, to her parent's room. The door was ajar, but she knocked on the door frame, as she always did when she wanted to bug her parents. No sound. She slowly leaned to peek in. "Mom? Dad?" What she saw made her shriek. Her parents were both mangled. Her mother, on the bed. Her father, on the floor, with a club still in one of his hands. He must have been fighting off the rodent, she thought. Then her dream came into her mind, and she screamed, "No! It's not real! It can't be! No!" She wept as she sunk to the floor, and there she stayed for several hours. She then got up and roboticaly went to take a bath and get dressed, then headed out and walked and walked. Walking where? She did not know nor care. Eventually, she found a boat and booked passage to the great land of Sinfar. |
