She seems to be rather friendly and has decent manners. This is due to the fact she did not grow up within a goblin clan. She grew up on the fringes of human society. As such has tried to emulate what she saw humans doing. As the runt of the litter and a girl the clan did not hold much hope for her. When she tried to to learn to fight she was seen as more of a liability than an asset. Causing more problems than learning anything, they finally gave her a sling and told her to go away and leave them alone. When she hurt several members of the clan in her attempt to practice the sling she was cast out of the clan and threatened with death should she return. Left with no choices, she set off to find a place she could call home and those that would make her part of their clan. Doing her best to learn to properly use her sling as she traveled away from her old clan, she eventually came across a human settlement. Remembering all the stories she had been taught about humans she was considerably cautious. She spent some time watching the humans and stealing what she needed to survive. She also watched how some human boys used a sling to bring down birds and small animals out of trees. During this time she learned how to use her sling properly and became quite proficient. As her skill increased she needed to steal less and less. Eventually she tried to approach the boys. However when they saw her they screamed something and ran toward their house. Soon men were running in her direction with weapons so she quickly ran away quite shaken by the experience. She decided to try and learn whet the boys yelled that brought the men with weapons. Moving around on the fringe of human society was both dangerous and productive. She slowly learned how to say several things in the human speech. Eventually picking up more and more words as her understanding of the common tongue grew. Eventually, during a especially nasty storm, half drowned by the deluge of rain and wind, she walked into an outpost inn in desperation. Staying covered in her patched cloak she took a seat by the fire to warm up and dry off. Due to her small size the innkeeper must have thought her a child and brought her a cup of hot tea. As soon as it was cool enough to drink, she found she liked this new drink and quickly finished the cup. As she warmed up and dried off she must have dozed off. She woke in the morning to the sound of commotion. Upon investigating, she found out that during the night using the storm for cover, what looks like a couple giants had raided and destroyed a couple farms not too far down the road. The locals were at the inn looking for anyone to help find and kill these giants before any more farms were destroyed. Seeing a possible way to prove she is not a threat to humans, she stayed close enough to hear how things were getting organized and when the angry group set out after the giants, she followed closely behind and slightly to the side of the group. She happened to get lucky and find a big clue the humans had missed in their haste. Knowing the humans were heading in the wrong direction she chose to reveal she was following them and called them back to look at the clue. At first they were not happy that a child was following them, but they could not deny she had found the clue and set them on the correct path. they reluctantly let her join if she agreed to help them find any more clues but she was to stay out of the combat. That suited her just fine. When the humans finally found the giant's cave she agreed to stay outside the cave and hidden. The sounds of battle could clearly be heard, so when she heard heavy thudding footfalls heading out of the cave she quickly rigged a trip line between two strong trees. No sooner than she had finished a wounded giant game running out and tripped on her rope. He fell with a ground shaking thud. As the stunned giant tried to get back to his feet she picked up a rock and slung it at him, striking the giant in the ear and sending him back to the ground just as the humans ran out of the cave and finished off the stunned giant. The humans were pleased with her quick thinking and one had actually seen her sling the stone at the giant and knock him back to the ground. When they wanted to know the name of the child that had helped them, she reluctantly told them she was not a child, or even human for that matter. They grew a little concerned. She asked them not to attack her and she took a deep breath and pulled back the hood of her cloak. A soft gasp was the only sound to break the silence for several long moments. Finally the one that had seen her sling the rock broke the silence and asked her where she had learned how to use the sling so well. When she told them she had copied some boys at a farm far from here, the man burst out laughing. That broke the tension. For the next little while she was barraged with questions about herself and where she had come from and about the clan the cast her out. When she was informed most of the goblins in that region had been killed they watched her reaction. She simply shrugged. She returned to the inn with the group feeling more accepted than she ever had. Most were still uneasy with her but they had been told how she had helped, and if they did not really trust her they at least did not bother her. She took any job she could get those first few days, just to get enough coin for food and lodging. After about a week had passed one of the men she had hunted giants with asked her if she wanted to help a merchant family travel safely to the next city down the road. She agreed and was introduced to the stunned merchant and his family. Since the man vouched for her and would be traveling with them they agreed. During the trip she helped save the merchant's son from a wolf attack. After that she was treated with a lot of respect. In the city the merchant told everyone about her heroic efforts to save his son. She may not have true friendship with humans, but at least she had acceptance and some respect. She moved freely around the city, unharassed though carefully watched. During this time she learned all they would teach her and learned the common tongue better. She took jobs as a caravan guard whenever she could, slowly building up her reputation and acceptance. One night on the road with a caravan the encampment was awakened to the sound of an increasing thunderous roar. Unknown to the group is that a large ancient beaver dam upstream had suddenly burst sending the contents of a large lake racing downstream right at where the camp was set near the ford in the river. She never did find out if any of the others survived or not. She struggled to keep her head above the churning fast flowing water as it raced along the old stream bed, eventually washing her out to sea. She found an uprooted tree floating near her and managed to climb on top of the trunk before she passed out from exhaustion. She was starving, dehydrated and nearly frozen when she finally made landfall in the middle of rain storm. Unsure about where she was she set out to find any signs of life, and instead found the most bizarre collection of creatures imaginable. Most just standing in the rain like it was a sunny day. After finding a bar and getting herself some water and a meal and warmed by the fire she set out to explore this strange new place she found herself in. |
