~ BACKSTORY (OOC) ~
Raven's birth largely remains a mystery to her even at present. Her birth-parents had orphaned her before she was able to understand that she was alive, leaving her knowledge of their fate unknown. Raven was terribly neglected from her inherited foster parents, and ultimately discarded by them as well as she was rebellious and most importantly in their eyes; a freak. Due to a lifetime of repression, Raven was, and continues to be a pariah and finds comfort in that. Though not quite anti-social, she easily get overwhelmed and confused in large groups. Like many others in similar situations, she thought she'd find solace for life in books.

Being learned didn't offer Raven much; and even then, she was no savant. The part that made her a freak was anything but mundane though, as her tribal roots granted her the powers of shapeshifting. Although Raven was born with such a gift, the lack of practice, and obvious abuse earlier in life prevented her from mastering it beyond a small grasp on her ability and she sometimes might seem ashamed of her differences. Neglect, and a lack of life direction led her towards an early-adult life in a brothel, so she could get by. Upon reflection of that life decision and what she has to do to survive, one might see it as having been the lesser evil, when considering the alternatives others in a similar situation may have done to get by.
