Manami was born in the East, her family driven west by the Tuigan Horde.  Eventually they settled around the Sea of Fallen Star. Isolated at first, then they met a travelling cleric.  The young man told them all about the mysteries of Lliira.  She was intrigued, then encouraged to leave her large family.  They traveled together, master and acolyte. Until the fateful day, they were ambushed, the senior of the pair fought them off rather easily.   He explained, their goddess might be peaceful, but she understands some folks aren't interested in talking it out.  So, she started down the path she is currently on, a Spirit of Steel.
