When 20-year-old Esme Diaz first arrived in Sinifer, she was, like many of the city's more innocent newcomers, very different back then to the person she's become since: in short, not very innocent at all.

Esme was in many ways a surreptitious character; marginally pretty, but modestly dressed, short and slim, and more cautiously streetwise than one might have expected. Whoever she'd learned to avoid was evidently more than a little dangerous.

All the same, Esme was still young enough to still openly exude a youthfully uncynical determination, while old enough to navigate her surroundings with a learnéd suspicion.  Certainly, although she seems incapable of violence, and has a manner that was (and still is) in most ways gentle and observational, Esme appears also to have the survival instincts of one who knows the world around her to be generally treacherous and unsafe.

Much good those survival instincts did her, in the end. In her sixth month in the city,


The only trinket of any obvious value on her person is a simple golden wedding ring.

This reasoning for such an appearance is simple: because that is precisely what Esmeralda does.  She travels.  Well, she moves, at least.  She ~visits~ this city often, but remains an itinerant outsider, spending short bursts of a few days here before vanishing for longer periods, sometimes lasting weeks or months.  Esme is extremely private about her business here (or elsewhere), but her patterns of movement and various other subtle cues about her person are beginning to raise curious whispers amongst some of the more nefariously inclined.  What information does she work with, or what secret does she carry?  How can it be exploited?  Is she her own agent, or is she doing the bidding of some distant and furtive power?
