Description
The pain.

It was forever ago. I fell into the depths of despair, it's ebony wax drowning me in sorrow. My insides hurt, my heart burned in agony as I clawed at my wretched visage; tears cascading from my eyes almost tearing the flesh from my own face. I wanted to let it end; fall into the pungent abyss and be nothing.

Where was my hero? I did mot know how long I slept; a stray wisp of smoke awoke me from my draining slumber. The moonless night's tenebrific qualities led me to stumble along, following my nose to forces yet unseen.

Muffles of fear and sadness mewed from the source of the fragrance. Startled, two children looked upon me, their eyes ascending to my own. Cold and hunger I felt from them followed by the smell of sickness and disease.

They were lighting a fire, or atleast trying to. Only the stars glittered any kind of light, yet it seemed as if it was enough. I felt their own despair as we looked into each other's eyes. Yet there was still hope in theirs , burning from whatever little wick they had left. The elder child had flint n one hand and a small steel in the other. His strikes too weak, too unsteady and yet he still tried.
The sheen of iron , led my eyes to the lantern he was trying to set a blaze.

Gently I took the instruments of fire from his frail fingers, trust was born perhaps from our downtrodden kinship. With the two calmed I struck at both flint and steel together, causing strong sparks to ignite the lantern into a brilliant glow.

Lifting the light, I let out my hand ; wrapping them around the eldest's own, his other knitted  along with his sister's fingers.

"Don't worry, I'll see us trough."
