There was little doubt that life had been an unkind friend to Nerissa Urania.  Had the grim, jaded expression she often donned not given such away, than the haggard visage of her person would most certainly tell a tale all it's own.

Like most folk hailing from Norvald, it could likely be assumed that Nerissa was a warrior of some talent.  A lithe figure covered in lean muscle and confident gait made it clear that she was no stranger to vigorous, physically demanding activity.

Norvald was a mountainous and wintry territory, the borders of which seemed to be in a near constant state of flux with Frisia's to the south. The Norvaldian people had been a heavily seafaring one, with fishing the dominant source of food for the northern nation.

They were hardy warriors, more reliant on size and strength than organization, with a thin number of mages augmenting any raiding parties that were formed. The country itself had few resources of its own, and in its earlier age had resorted to raiding Brythonian and Frisian coasts. Ussuria and Silesia were enemies rarely challenged by the Norvaldian raiders, largely because even their outlying villages were too well defended to be worth the scant risks.

A handful of dormant volcanoes dominated the rocky landscape of Norvald, and hot springs vied with cold mountain streams for the nation's water supply. Norvald had recently begun importing miners and experts, with rumors of extensive gold veins discovered in its mountains; for the first time in some decades, the nation had the means and ability to trade with others. Norvalidan ships to Seaforth brought gold, casks of exquisite whiskey, mead, and other spirits, and mercenaries, considered among the most loyal to their word and contract.

The most recent rumors include talk of a warchief trying to unite the varied Norvaldian clans, and a city forming around the hill town of Carlyon, all rumors that Norvald's neighbors note with great concern.

It wasn't abnormal for Nerissa to be splotched and splattered in blood, smeared in various shades of warpaint that was likely custom to her clan.  Although she was something of an outlandish sight within the city of Seaforth, it seemed that she had adapted well to the customs and culture, and any language barrier that might've existed at one time was of little consequence to her.
