When wizards are young,  they often do very stupid things in the pursuit of power, glory or just plain curiosity.  Sometimes,  they even survive to learn the lesson.

 Sometimes they'd really just rather forget the entire situation ever happened and discreetly dispose of all evidence that anything ever even happened.

 And then sometimes . . . the 'evidence' refuses to be forgotten. Ever.
