Have you ever said something you really wish you could take back?  Mara's adoptive parents certainly have, and such is what led the young woman to Sinfar.  Mara grew up a privelaged life, her parents were wealthy and she never really had to struggle for anything.  That's not to say she's spoiled or anything though, despite her spoiled upbringing, she is quite kind hearted.  One evening, Mara's mother and father were celebrating their anniversary with a bit too much to drink.  They ended up beginning to argue about something, and got on the topic of Mara herself, who was curiously listening in the other room.  That is when the man she had known as her father mentioned the girl not being their real daughter, which is where everything changed.

Mara was shocked to learn this and confronted her drunk parents, tears in her eyes, they tried to console her, but realized that now must be the time where they come clean.  They told her of their time traveling and how upon a visit to this land, they adopted a child to make their family whole.  They apologized again and again for not telling her, but she was too upset to listen.  That night, when her parents fell asleep, she made a rash decision, she packed up some things, gathered the money she had saved, and went to the local port, chartering a ship to take her to Sinfar.  Still upset with those who raised her, she wants to find her parents, not knowing if they will want to see her, or even care who she is.
