Character Concept
In the setting of the Legends of Five Rings, twisted spirits, tainted by the essence of Jigoku are named Yokai, while the term Yokai described a wide range of spirits in other settings.

Masahiro is a wrathful, vengeful spirit, twisted by decades of suffering of being denied final rest and denied atonement, as well as enduring torment in Jigoku. Tainted by the Essence of Jigoku, his very own essence is now a slave to the will of Jigoku, fulfilling his duty, in a never ending attempt to atone himself. So he haunts the world of the living, summoned by injustice, betrayal, treason and dishonoring behavior, punishing the perpetrators.

The Spirit of Vengeance possesses several powers to fulfill his purpose:

Eyes of Hell allows him to have perfect vision in darkness, smoke or even when magically blinded. Granting him True Sight, he is able to see through any shape of disguised Spirit, seeing it's true form instead.

Kharmic Judgement grants him the ability to sense Kharma in and of every individual, allowing him to differ between those who bear a positive and a negative Kharma, as well as the kharmic connection between individuals.

Jade Sense allows him to instantly detect any jade or crystal within an area around them.

Speak With the Voices of the Dead allows him to speak with the spirits of the deceased.

Terror of Jigoku causes his very presence to emit soulshattering fear at any time, when in his Spirit shape. This aura has a range of several yards/meters causing various effects to anyone unfortunate enough to be in range (Intimidation roll vs Will roll every 10th Round; lasting as long as in range of the aura, or able to resist at the 10th Round):

Those immune to fear, or mentally strong enough will still feel the chill of terror crawling upon their spine, causing their body to shudder.
Spirits, sentient Undead, Demons, Devils and Celestials, Dragons and Dragonkin gain a second attempt to resist, if not immune by default.

Those without blame would feel an instinctive, primal urge to escape the aura, when failing to resist the power of the aura, making it impossible to resist any other attempts that would demand their willpower.

Those who are guilty of betrayal, injustice or have acted honorless, will be paralyzed by the sheer amount of terror that fills their mind and very essence, as they hear the agonized screams of the tormented in Jigoku, and equally experience hellish visions, when failing to resist the power of this aura, making it impossible to resist any other attempts that would demand their willpower.

Amending Injustice is a power that reacts to individuals within the range of the power Terror of Jigoku. The Spirit of Vengeance closes in to touch an individual:

Affecting those who are victims of injustice and betrayal, forcing the desire within them to set straight injustice they suffered, syphoning upon their vitality in the process, lasting until the injustice is amneded. The affected suffers from a slowly increased exhaustion over time, and dreams that would make them see themselves strifing to bring justice to those who wronged them. (1 healthpoint per IRL day, however only max. 360 healthpoints)

Affecting the perpetrators, those who caused injustice, forcing the desire within them to set straight injustice they caused, syphoning upon their vitality in the process, lasting until the injustice is amneded. The affected suffers from an increased exhaustion over time, turning their skin pallid, their appearance sickly and cause nightmares that would show them their eternal fate, tormented in Jigoku in the ways they wronged their victims. (2 healthpoints per IRL day, however only max. 500 healthpoints)

Thy Master's Will
As those affected by the ability Amending Injustice are drained of their vitality, it is credited to the Spirit of Vengeance, allowing him to slowly rebuild a solid corporeal shape, yet still undead.

The Revenant Form

Alias: Hiro the Dishonored; the Lost
Race: Undead, tainted
Subrace: Hyakuhei
Physical Status: Corporeal

Physical appearance:
He reeks of death and rotten flesh, nothing more than remains of flesh and exposed bones, the flesh pallid and dark grey, marked with sinister green glowing runes of Jigoku, and covered in black and dark green substance, the Taint. The Taint, while once infectious, has turned harmless to others, not contagious anymore.

Powers given by the Shadowland Taint while in the Revenant Form:

Thy Master's Will allows the tainted individual to return from death every time he is killed. The individual returns as an undead creature, but will return to their full strength (but not life) after a period of time has passed. He is basically a soul trapped in an undead body. However, as the body is nothing more than an only partially restored, corrupted, reanimated husk, it will continue to rot and decay over the time, devoured by the taint, returning it to the Essence of Jigoku.

Feeding on Flesh allows the tainted individual to feed on the flesh of another creature or person to replenish their own strength. Therefore it prolongs the decaying progress. The power requires the tainted person to kill the victim with his bare hands. Anyone killed in this manner will never return as ancestor, instead the soul will be devoured by the Essence of Jigoku. A terrible red light rises from the victim into the individual's mouth, and the howl of tormented souls can be heard for several yard. This power can however only be used on mortal individuals with a terribly negative Kharma.

Blood Knows Blood allows the tainted individual to sense parts of his own body no matter where they are.

Master of Shadows grants the tainted individual increased concealment in darkness and shadows. If the individual is under bright light his features blurr, attracting deep shadows, even when there are none about. (Granting +10 points when rolling the feats: Hide & Sneaking)

Weaknesses, Vulnerabilities and Disabilities

While in the Spirit of Vengeance Form:
Shunned by Light - Dark, twisted Spirits shy away from the sunlight, for it is the power of Amaterasu, and thus makes it unbearable for them to remain in. They also shy away from blue lighted lanterns and lamps.

A World for the Living - As an Spirit without a physical body, they do not belong to the realm of the living, therefore their time haunting it, is limited. Their ability to interact with the physical aspects of the realm is also limited. This would also make him vulnerable to banishment, even though, only temporarily.

Unholy Existance - Malevolent Spirits are an affront to the natural order and heaven, and therefore are irritated by blessings, shying away from them and take damage by spells that would heal a living person. They cannot enter consecrated grounds, such as temples, shrines, or pass through tori-gates. They cannot pass through anything made of Jade or Crystal, and be harmed by weapons made that consist of these materials.
