History.
Jack was born in the slums of Waterdeep to a "Lady of the night", his father could have been anyone of his mother's clients. Jack had a tough childhood, he attended the school of hard knocks and before he was seven, he was running with a gang of street urchins. They got into minor scrapes and scraps all ways just one step ahead of the local watch. well most of the time anyway.One of his mothers regular's was a grizzled veteran of Waterdeeps regulars, who took shine to young Jack and got him enlisted as an apprentice Archer.Jack spent his latter teenage years learning to take orders (that took some doing) and broaden his horizens.
After serving his minimum time in the Regular's, Jack's archery skills were pretty fair, as good as any of the other's in his Regiment. But it was a wizened old Wood elf that would tap into Jack's latent natural talent for the Longbow.
The old elf had come to Waterdeep looking for his long lost son, but his search came to a very negative end and he ended up in a very saddened state nursing a sour ale in the Broken Barrel. A pub of ill repute where Jack happened to be doing a bit of shady business. The old elf soon attracted the wrong kind of attention due to his age, wellkept attire and the exquiste bow he had with him. Three local hoods took to intimidation and bullying trying to goad the old man and Jack watched on with some interest. He wasn't so much interested in the Elf, but the three cowardly hoods. Jack knew them from old Shorty, Stinky and Snotty, they'd all grown up at the same time but in different gangs and even though Jack had not been in that "life" for quite some time the fire of old rivalries still flickered and he balled his fists.
The old elf was grateful for Jack's intervention and asked if he'd escort the elf back home, which was quite a journey. Jack agreed, as getting out of the city for a little while wasn't a bad idea. The trip was uneventful and the old elf on finding out Jack was an archer thought he could pass on some skill which he had taught his own lost son and Jack was eager to learn.
Back in Waterdeep Jack bought some property and pays for it by taking trips to Icenfar to adventure. he also goes to Sinfar for the duels, he can be found at the Arena.
